THE LOCO-MOTION (7" MIX) - Kylie Minogue

(THIS IS MY JUDGED ENTRY!)

=======================================
SONG / ARTIST INFORMATION
=======================================

Title: THE LOCO-MOTION (7" MIX)
Artist: Kylie Minogue
Album: Kylie - Greatest Hits 87-92
Year Released: 1988
BPM: 129-point something-and-a-half (ish)
Highest Chart Position: #2 (UK) #7 (USA) #1 (AUSTRALIA)

"THE LOCO-MOTION" is a cover of Little Eva's 1962 hit of the same name, but is now considered by many to be a Kylie song in its own right.
This is in fact the second version of the song to be recorded by Kylie Minogue, but more on that later.

In 1987, Kylie was playing "Charlene Mitchell" in the cult Australian soap opera "Neighbours", a role which made her and her co-stars cult idols in both her native land and the UK.
At the end of a live appearance with other members of the cast, she performed this song as an encore.
It proved so popular that "THE LOCOMOTION" (note: no hyphen!) became the biggest selling Australian song of the decade, and remained at #1 for seven weeks.

After taking her homeland by storm, she set her sights on the rest of the world, starting with the UK.
During a brief visit to London she recorded the now-classic "I Should Be So Lucky" with the legendary music producers Stock, Aitken and Waterman.
(If you don't know who they are, shame on you! (Their first major success was a certain song by "Dead Or Alive"!)

This song shot straight to #1 in both the UK and Australia simultaneously, and was a top 20 hit all over the world.
This pattern continued with her follow-up song, "Got To Be Certain".

For her third single she re-recorded the song which had brought her first chart success, and this was released in August 1988.
The now properly titled "Loco-Motion" went straight to #2 in the UK, and even reached #3 in the USA.

With sales of over half a million, this song remains one of her biggest selling tracks to date.
The rest of the world would experience many more Kylie hits after this, but America would have to wait until "Can't Get You Out Of My Head" reached #7 in 2001.

From soap star to pop megastar, she's had a bit of a rough time of late.
But I'm sure she'll come out of it better than ever!

Kylie songs featured in Konami games:

CAN'T GET YOU OUT OF MY HEAD - (Dancing Stage PARTY EDITION)
Love At First Sight - (Dancing Stage MegaMix / DDRMAX2 USA)
Come Into My World - (Dancing Stage Fusion)

The Loco-Motion was actually scheduled to appear in DDR at some point, in both American and Europe.
Maybe it will show up this year?

THE STEPS

BEGINNER STEPS: (2)
These are bog-standard Beginner level steps, and so are easier than learning your ABCs.
They are also very boring and repetitive, but would be fun for holidaymakers to try.
FUN FACT: Beginner steps have been a feature in ALL of Konami's Dance games since 2002. ;)
Say... why don't YOU try making beginner steps TODAY! [/sarcasm]

BASIC STEPS: (3)
These steps intentionally build on the Beginner steps, adding freezes and more "vocal" patterns.
I have seen a lot of kids play the same songs over and over on beginner, then attempting a 3 footer as their final stage.
If this was on an arcade machine, I imagine this would be one of those over-played songs!
These steps have been approved by my 34 year old cousin.

DIFFICULT STEPS: (5)
These were actually created independently to the other stepsets - apart from the ending which was copied from Expert and mirrored.
Looking at them now, they feel like either a simplified version of Expert or an enhanced version of Basic.
I also tried to make them slightly harder than usual, I just hope this was the right thing to do.
EDIT: Last minute checks for "double-stepping" (or "awkward steps" as I like to call them) so I hope I didn't miss any!

EXPERT STEPS: (7)
These are a fun 7, but don't go expecting anything as easy as "KICK THE CAN" here.
7 foot songs tend to be a lot harder these days, but I would say these are somewhere in between.
They follow parts of the rhythm and lyrics, and should be 100% paddable without lots of awkward foot swapping!
I have spent EXTRA time testing these steps repeatedly, and have also sought other people's opinions before submitting this file.
EDIT: Steps changed for the 4th time cos I missed an awkward bit.

THE GRAPHICS

The banner and bg are based on the graffiti backdrop image which dominates the music video.
These were created in Adobe Photoshop 7 and I actually spent a considerable amount of time on these so I hope you like them!
I did want to include a train somewhere in the banner, but it didn't work out that way. Ah well!
I'm pretty please with these graphics as they're quite different to anything I've done before.
Also included is an alternative song banner, for use in "In The Groove" themes.

The Kylie Minogue logo isn't based on anything official, (shock horror!) but it is the same font used in the DS MegaMix version of "Love At First Sight".
I figure she's had so many different logos over the years that it would be hard to choose one.

The stills and music video were ripped from the Ultimate Kylie DVD compilation, using Smartripper, DVD2AVI, and the VFAPI Codec.
I have included extra bg images for your pleasure, cos I couldn't decide which ones to use!
The video was then edited in Adobe Premiere and scaled down to 320 x 256 pixels.

NOTE: There is something very wrong with Kylie's arms in the main bg image - I guess bluescreen work was still a bit ropey in those days!

OTHER STUFF

The CDTitle points to the aforementioned Ultimate Kylie compilation album,
and Hellrazor will be pleased to know that it will still work if you put it in the CDTitles folder!

The lyrics aren't timed properly. The first half was done by working out the correct timing from the mp3, but the rest were done in XLyric cos I got bored.

Hello again, 'tis me.
I'm still a moderator at DDRExtreme.co.uk (I was the first one you know!) and you're still you, no doubt.
But I hope you like this file, 'cos I really spent ages on it. And I mean seriously.
Hopefully I'll get round to rereleasing all my older stuff this year, but I probably won't have time. But I'm going to start releasing some, and see how I go. "TRAGEDY", "JUMP DOWN" and "School's Out!" are itching for a comeback!

RANDOM FACT: One of my stronger 80's memories is sitting in my school classroom with my friends at play time because it was raining,
laughing at all the girls dancing around the place making up stupid lyrics to Kylie songs. (We were only about 7 years old at the time!)

"You gotta swing your tits now..."
"Put your hand on your arse and tell me"
"I should be so mucky..."

yada yada yada...

Anyway... if you like this file, please vote for me. And check out my other files at DDRExtreme.co.uk, they are ever so slowly going up again!
